The High Commissioner

H.E. Jean Claude Galea Mallia is the High Commissioner of the Republic of Malta to Ghana. He presented his credentials to H.E. Nana Dankwa Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, on 19 March 2019. The High Commission of Malta in Accra is the country’s first diplomatic mission in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Before being appointed High Commissioner, H.E. Galea Mallia served as Malta’s first Honorary Consul in Accra. In this capacity, he successfully launched a strategy for mutual Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which opened the door to new commercial opportunities between Malta and Ghana. The High Commissioner also played a pivotal role in the organization of the first State Visit and high profile trade mission from Malta to Ghana.  During his tenure, H.E. Galea Mallia will continue to work intensely for further successes in bilateral relations between Malta and Ghana in all fields of mutual interest.

A graduate of St. Edward’s College, H.E. Galea Mallia furthered his studies at the University of Malta, where he read a Bachelors of Commerce degree. Promptly after completing his studies, the High Commissioner moved to Ghana at the tender age of twenty-two to take up a managerial role within the private sector. During the ten years residing in Ghana, H.E. Galea Mallia both managed and advised several Maltese companies seeking to establish a foothold in Ghana’s vibrant economy as well as guided Ghanaian companies seeking international opportunities and access into the European market.

H.E. Galea Mallia is fluent in Maltese, English and Italian. An avid sports fan and an ex-player with the youth national football team, he is deeply attached to Malta through his passion for sailing, which is shared by his fiancée, Leena, a Ghanaian-Lebanese national.
