Mr Walter Mallia
Mr. Walter Mallia is the new Consul General of Malta in Istanbul, Turkey. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1977.
Prior to his posting in Turkey, he was Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Malta in Lisbon, Portugal.
Throughout Malta’s entire EU accession negotiations, he served at the Permanent Representation of Malta to the European Union in Brussels, for seven years.
Mr. Mallia was subsequently posted to the Permanent Representation of Malta to the United Nations in New York as Consul for the New York Tristate area, while also following the works of the Administrative and Budgetary matters of the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly and UN Candidatures and elections.
He had earlier also served as Consul at the Malta High Commission in Canberra, Australia.
Between different tours of duty abroad he held positions at the Ministry’s Financial, Protocol and Consular Departments.
Mr. Mallia speaks French and Italian besides his native Maltese and English languages. He is married to Anna née Vella and they have two sons, Robert and Steven.
