On 19 October 2024, Ambassador Pace,
accompanied by Mr. Pascoe Grima, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul,
participated in the ceremonies marking the 82nd Anniversary of the Second
Battle of El Alamein, a key moment in the Allies' North African campaign during
the Second World War. After the Axis forces lost the Second Battle of El
Alamein in November 1942, they diverted resources to the Tunisia campaign, thus
reducing their attacks on Malta and effectively ending a siege on the island that
lasted almost two years and a half.
While at the Commonwealth Memorial, Ambassador
Pace paid his respects to five of the known Maltese soldiers who sacrificed
their lives in defence of our freedom and whose bodies were never
recovered: H.J. Cassar, J. Cauchi, J.
Cuschieri, H.G. Pace, and L.J. Psaila. Lest We Forget.
