Ambassador of Malta to France presents letters of credence to President Macron

On 10 December, H.E. Mr Carmelo Inguanez, presented the letters of credence to the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, accrediting him as Ambassador of the Malta to the French Republic. The ceremony took place at the Élysée Palace, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian.

In his opening speech, President Macron stated that the global community needs to create the conditions for good relations and understanding. The world is facing several challenges that need to be addressed at the international level. Europe, in particular, is facing a challenge in democracy, that requires us to strengthen the equilibrium.

He reiterated that France remains a firm supporter of multilateralism. France attaches a lot of importance to climate change and environment. Other priorities include: i) action to combat terrorism and to strengthen security; ii) to speed up economic development; and iii) to increase investment in education and health.

In a short private audience, President Macron referred to the issues which both countries need to continue to work upon notably cooperation in the Mediterranean, European reconstruction and further collaboration on migration.

Ambassador Inguanez thanked President Macron for the initiatives already taken by France and affirmed Malta’s continued support to these French efforts.
