On 16 November 2016, Dr Mark Anthony Pace presented his Letters
of Credence as Ambassador of the Republic
of Malta to His Excellency Beji Caid Essebsi, President of the
Republic of Tunisia.
President Essebsi welcomed
H.E. Mark Anthony Pace to Tunisia and emphasised the importance that his
country attaches to the relationship between the two countries, which he characterised as one based on friendship and
solidarity. President Essebsi fondly recalled the visit of H.E. Marie-Louise
Coleiro Preca, President of the
Republic of Malta, to Tunisia earlier this year.
On his part Ambassador Pace
noted that next year Malta and Tunisia will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary
of their bilateral relationship. He reiterated the importance that Malta
attaches to its Mediterranean dimension and to the special role that Tunisia
plays in the region. Reference was made to Malta’s upcoming Presidency of
the Council of the European Union.
Ambassador Pace underlined that the Mediterranean is one of Malta’s
three key priorities. President Essebsi showed his appreciation for
Malta’s commitment to the
relationship
between his country and the European Union. Ambassador Pace conveyed to
President Essebsi his Government’s determination to do its part to take the
already strong relationship between Tunisia and the EU even further.
At the end of the ceremony Ambassador Pace inspected the Guard of
Honour and assisted to the playing
of the national
anthems of the two countries.
