On Friday 18th September the Ambassador
of Malta in Tunisia HE Carmel Inguanez hosted a reception at the Ramada Plaza
Hotel to mark the Anniversary of the Independence of Malta.
The Reception was attended by numerous members of the
diplomatic corps based in Tunis, members of the Tuniso-Maltese business
community, members of the Tunisian media, representatives of the Tunisian civil
society, and the Maltese community. Politicians from different political
backgrounds also attended. Among the important guests were Her Excellency
Latifa Lakhdar Minister of Culture and the Secretary of State for European
Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs His Excellency Mohammed Ezzine
Chelaifa.
In his brief address for the occasion, Ambassador
Inguanez reminded the audience of the big economic, social and political
projects undertaken by Maltese politicians since Independence in spite of
doubts raised and difficulties encountered. The conviction of Maltese political
class, together with their courage, determination and vision was of paramount
importance to lead the country to develop to the level we are in now. In an
analogy to the Tunisian situation, the big challenges that lie ahead for
Tunisia’s continuation in the road of economic development and strengthening
democracy similarly face many difficulties. However in spite of these
challenges, the political leaders of Tunisia have with courage, determination
and vision started putting in place the fundamental factors of economic
success.
Ambassador Inguanez reiterated the Maltese government’s
support in the efforts of the Tunisian government to ensure a brighter future
for its country and its people.
