The Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Hon. Evarist Bartolo, today addressed the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

For the first time since 2015, the Forum was held virtually among the 193 UN member countries in a bid to curtail the spread of COVID-19, and not in New York as is customary. Spanning over two whole weeks, the Forum meets annually to assess the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, culminating with Ministerial and High Level Segments on its last three days.

In his address, Minister Bartolo, called for global solutions, through effective multilateralism and the rules-based international order with the United Nations at its core.

Lashed by the unprecedented global pandemic, Minister Bartolo made emphasis on the need for UN member states to, more than ever before in history, strengthen efforts in our path towards the intended achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda would equip the world to withstand future unprecedented shocks by building more resilient societies and economies.

The Minister reiterated that only together can we emerge stronger tomorrow.
