The first meeting of the 43rd session
of the Committee on Information of the United Nations was held this morning.
During this opening session, the Committee held the elections for its new
Bureau in which Darren Camilleri, Political Coordinator at the Permanent
Mission of Malta to the United Nations in New York, was elected Vice-Chair and
Rapporteur of the Committee for the next two years. Mr Camilleri is currently
also serving as the Vice-Chair of the Special Political and Decolonization
Committee (Fourth Committee).
The Committee on Information is a
subsidiary body of the General Assembly, established by the General Assembly to
deal with questions relating to public information. It is responsible for
overseeing the work of the Department of Global Communications and for
providing it with guidance on policies, programmes and activities of the
Department.
Maltese diplomats at the Permanent
Mission in New York remain committed and determined to contribute to the UN and
the multilateral system.
